Connor McDavid announced as NHL 18 cover athlete, trailer revealed

EA Sports is going with the youth movement for the next installment of the NHL series, as NHL 18 will feature Connor McDavid on its cover.

During the NHL Awards on Wednesday night, Connor McDavid took home a few honors. For starters, he was voted as the winner of the Ted Lindsay Award, and then later was named as the cover athlete for NHL 18.

The next version of EA Sports’s NHL series will focus on the youth movement, which is a dominant trend in the league with names like McDavid, Auston Matthews, Johnny Gaudreau and tons of other young talent dominating last season.

The game was showcased at the awards show, with the official cover reveal featuring McDavid, and the first true look at some gameplay in an official trailer for the game. The cover of the game for those who order the special edition features McDavid and some bonus content for ordering the “Young Stars Edition”.

One small mistake that was made with the new trailer, which EA obviously had no time to switch out in such a small time frame, is the old jerseys being used throughout the trailer for the Oilers. New duds were just unveiled on Tuesday night, as the NHL transitions from Reebok to adidas for tits apparel and uniforms starting next season.

McDavid is surely the future of the league, and he had an incredible year with 100 total points, including 30 goals, in the regular season. The 20-year-old is on pace to become one of, if not the best player in the league for years to come, so it makes sense to showcase him as the leader of the youth movement in the new game.

The game, as usual, is due out in September, and will only be released on next-gen consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
