Downward Dog Canceled by ABC After One Season

Downward Dog, starring Fargo’s Allison Tolman, has been canceled by ABC

The ABC series Downward Dog has been canceled after a single season, according to TVLine. The news about the show comes to us from writer/creator Sam Hodges, who said that they’re trying to find a new home for the series starring Emmy-nominated Allison Tolman (Fargo). You can check out the tweet, which is a statement from Hodges and writer/co-creator Michael Killen, below.

Based on the web series, Downward Dog is about a struggling millennial, Nan, from the point of view of her lonely and philosophical dog, Martin. One session at obedience school already makes them realize that even at their worst they may be the best thing for each other. The series stars Allison Tolman as Nan, Lucas Neff as Jason, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Jenn, Barry Rothbart as Kevin and Mo Collins as Kim. Samm Hodges is the voice of Martin.

Downward Dog creators/writers Samm Hodges and Michael Killen executive produce with Mosaic Media Group’s Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen, and Animal’s Kathy Dziubek. Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were executive producers of the pilot. The series is from Legendary Television and ABC Studios.

According to the statement, ABC will air the last two episodes of season one on Tuesday night and Hodges asks that fans watch. Many other shows have gone on to find new homes on streaming services or cable networks, so it’s a possibility if it can be worked out financially and the audience is there. The show began with positive ratings, but they’ve declined over the season on the network.

Are you guys upset about the cancelation of Downward Dog? Were you watching, and would you be willing to be part of a campaign to get the show on another network or a streaming service? Let us know in the comments or tweet us @ComingSoonnet.
