5. Daisuke Matsuzaka

2013 Stats: 7 games started, 3 quality starts. 3-0, 4.42 ERA, 1.24 WHIP.
38.2 IP, 33 K, 7.68 K/9.

2014 Fantasy Outlook: Diasuke looked done early last year struggling in the Indians system. However, he had a bit of a renaissance at the end of the season and has earned himself the inside-track on the final spot in the Mets rotation.

Last season, Matszuaka had an efficient September going 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA while holding opponents to a .194 average and striking out 24 in 29.1 innings.  While he probably can’t keep those numbers up over the long haul, they do show that he can be worth a spot start or considering as a streaming option based on matchup.

The battle for the last few spots in the Mets’ rotation is definitely worth watching to see who gets the opportunity to start among the many options New  York has in their farm system.  Daisuke has the inside track at this point, but make sure to monitor the situation as Spring Training continues.
