Former Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd announces he's headed to Baylor

Former Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd will transfer to Baylor, he announced via social media on Saturday.

Hurd, who left Tennessee midway through last season and toyed with the idea of jumping to the NFL, tweeted out a photo of himself in a Baylor t-shirt with the caption "next chapter." ESPN later confirmed Hurd will transfer to Baylor and play wide receiver.

Hurd rushed for 2,638 yards and 20 touchdowns in three seasons at Tennessee, and totaled 67 receptions for 492 yards and six additional TDs. He left the team in late October despite being the Volunteers' leading rusher at the time.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Hurd totaled at least 22 carries in three of the Volunteers' first four games last season, but reportedly suffered a concussion against Georgia on Oct. 1 and saw his production and workload decline. Fellow junior Alvin Kamara shouldered much of the rushing load the remainder of the year for Tennessee, which finished 9-4 after entering 2016 as the favorite to win the SEC East.

Hurd also visited Ohio State and Louisville before settling on Baylor. He will sit out this fall under NCAA transfer rules and will have one season of eligibility beginning in 2018.
