Ryan Fitzgerald gears for Bruins debut in preseason game vs. Red Wings

Ryan Fitzgerald of North Reading is anxious to get his first taste of the NHL when the Bruins host the Detroit Red Wings in a preseason clash tonight (7) at the TD Garden.

“Practicing against the same players every day is good competition, don’t get me wrong,” said Fitzgerald, a hockey product of Malden Catholic High School and Boston College. “But there is nothing like playing against another team and seeing how you stack up against the league and other respective clubs. I’m not too sure what Detroit’s lineup is but we have a good one in there and we expect to win. “

Fitzgerald, 22, participated in the morning skate at Warrior Ice Arena at left wing with David Krejci, David Pastrnak and other veteran players. Fitzgerald hopes the chemistry he’s developed in practice will expand under game conditions.

“I think the excitement is the biggest thing,” said Fitzgerald. “I just want to show I can stay there on the line and that I belong in that area and play my game and use my speed and don’t force too many plays.

“There are going to be mistakes out there and plays that I want to take back but I am going to give it my all.”

Fitzgerald was the Bruins' fourth-round pick (120th overall) in the 2013 draft and signed with the club after his final season with BC. He made his pro debut with the Providence Bruins on March 25 at Albany.
